1997 Legends Show
My longtime friend, Dick Ploog, a Late Model driver at the time, held what he called a racing Legends show in the Expo Building at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds for several years in the 1990s.
It took place during racing’s off-season, so it was a wonderful time for racing people to get together and talk about sport they loved and look at some of the cars that were on display. I was the MC and interviewed some of the “oldtimers.
Following are some photographs I took from the 1997 Legends show. I was shooting black and white film at that time, but I hope you enjoy the historic photos nonetheless. Some of the people pictured are retired now and some, sadly, are no longer with us.
The photos are of:
1) Former driver Paul Burrow with Dick Ploog.
2) Racing photographer Chuck Barton with Ploog with promoter and former driver Bruce Current.
3) Driver and former promoter Jim Gerber with Ploog.
4) The number 11 Late Model that Ploog was racing at the time.
5) Scorer and former driver Ed Potter with the racing Diercks brothers and Bruce Current.
6) Driver Ron Weedon shows off his new Late Model.
7) Retired driver Ken Arthur talks with Ron Weedon.
